Who we are
mimux is made and operated by Merola Software & Services, Wartauweg 19, 8049 Zurich, Switzerland — the business of Matteo Merola, sole proprietor. For everything in this policy, that business is the data controller. You can reach us at mattmezza@gmail.com.
The short version
mimux is a self-hosted email client. Your mail lives on your hardware, and we never see it. This website sets zero cookies. Our analytics are self-hosted, anonymous, and honour Do Not Track. The only personal data we process at all is what it takes to sell you a licence: an email address and a payment record. That's the whole policy — the rest is detail.
What this policy covers
Four things, each with its own section below:
- mimux.dev — this website.
- account.mimux.dev — where you buy and retrieve licences.
- docs.mimux.dev — the API documentation.
- The mimux application — the software you run yourself.
mimux.dev — this website
This is a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc., USA), which acts as our hosting provider and CDN. Cloudflare handles its server logs according to Cloudflare's privacy policy.
For visitor statistics we run our own instance of Umami, an open-source analytics tool, on our own server in the EU. It is cookieless, stores no persistent identifiers, does not store IP addresses, and honours your browser's Do Not Track setting. There are no third-party analytics, no ads, and no cross-site tracking of any kind.
The site sets zero cookies. That's why there is no cookie banner — there is nothing to consent to.
account.mimux.dev — licence purchases
When you buy a mimux pro licence, we process:
- your email address,
- the plan you purchased,
- the licence keys we issued to you,
- purchase timestamps.
Payments are processed by Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd.). Your card details go to Stripe only — we never see or store card numbers.
We keep order records for 10 years, because Swiss bookkeeping law requires it (Art. 958f CO). After that, they go.
Lost your key? Enter your email at account.mimux.dev and we send it to you again. The service is rate-limited to prevent abuse. There are no accounts and no passwords — nothing to breach.
docs.mimux.dev
Static API documentation, hosted the same way as this site, with the same self-hosted analytics and nothing else.
The mimux application — we process nothing
The application runs entirely on your own hardware. We have no access to your mail, your credentials, or your usage. It sends no telemetry, no update pings, no crash reports. Even licence verification is an offline Ed25519 signature check — no phone-home, no activation server, no machine fingerprint. Remote images in emails are blocked until you allow them.
For your mail data, you are your own controller. We process nothing, so there is nothing for this policy to regulate — which is exactly how we designed it.
Your rights
Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nFADP), and the GDPR where it applies to you, you can ask us to:
- tell you what data we hold about you (access),
- correct it (rectification),
- delete it (erasure),
- hand it over in a portable format (portability),
- stop processing it (objection).
Email mattmezza@gmail.com and we'll act on it. Note that deletion has one limit: order records we're legally required to keep for bookkeeping stay for those 10 years.
You can also complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, if you're in the EU/EEA, to your local supervisory authority.
Data transfers
Cloudflare is a US company, so serving this website can involve transferring technical data (like the request itself) to the United States. These transfers rely on standard contractual clauses and applicable adequacy decisions. Our analytics data stays on our own server in the EU, and purchase data is processed by Stripe's European entity.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we change this page and update the date at the top. We won't email you about it — we mostly don't have your email, and that's the point.
